Changing the breathing handle

Follow these steps:

Your NIOX® device will alert you when the breathing handle requires replacing, and alert you when it is nearing its expiry. You can order a replacement quickly and easily via your local contact. Replacing the breathing handle is simple. Please follow the steps in our instructional video below, or scroll down for text based steps.

Step One: Replacing the handle:

1. Lay the device on its side on a safe and even surface.
2. Remove the expired handle by pushing the socket into the device and gently pulling out the tube. Please do not attempt to remove the tube without pushing the socket into the device. Failure to do so could damage the socket and compromise the ability to continue testing.
3. Attach your new handle by pushing the tube into the socket until the triangle is no longer visible.
4. Place the device on its stand. From the main menu on the device touchscreen, select Settings  .
5. Select Breathing Handle   .
6. Select Reset Breathing Handle   . The breathing handle information view will open to confirm that the replacement was successful. Please do not select the Reset Breathing Handle option until Step 3 has been performed and a new breathing handle has been fitted.
7. Press OK to acknowledge the confirmation.
8. Reset the remaining measurements counter to 1,000 and the new expiration date to one year from the current replacement date.

Step Two: Disposal of expired breathing handles:

1. The breathing handle contains potassium permanganate and should be disposed of as hazardous waste in accordance with local regulations.
2. Dispose of the breathing handle once the new handle has been exchanged or when the handle has reached 1,000 measurements / one year of service.

Step Three: When/why should I change the breathing handle on the NIOX VERO®?

1. The breathing handle can be used for 1,000 measurements or up to one year from the date of installation, whichever comes first. To maintain the accuracy of your test results, please do not use a breathing handle beyond 1,000 measurements or one year.
2. The NIOX® breathing handle contains potassium permanganate which removes any ambient nitric oxide for the most accurate results. Over time, this becomes naturally depleted and therefore requires replacing over time and use.
