Getting started.
To begin with, the healthcare professional will pass a new FeNO Protect Patient Filter® to the patient, instructing them to twist it onto the NIOX® Breathing Handle.

It all starts with inhalation.
Next the patient will be asked to inhale. This is important as the NIOX® Breathing Handle contains a NIOX NeutroNO® Scrubber that removes ambient NO on inhalation, preventing contamination to measurements.
Ambient NO can vary from 2 to 500ppb!2 Consider the potential impact on FeNO if it isn’t removed!
Exhalation
Following our NIOX Accessible Aids®, the patient will exhale once they have inhaled. Exhalation will either be for 10 seconds or 6 seconds, depending on the test mode selected (adult or child).
NIOX® captures the perfect 50 ml / second
Last, but not least...
NIOX® devices keep just the last three seconds of the 10-second exhalation to ensure that only breath from lower in the airways is tested.
FeNO Dry® Technology
During exhalation, our unique FeNO Dry® Technology removes excess humidity from the breath sample.
The purest sample
By the time the air sample enters the NIOX Aerocore®, where it is stored for analysis, it has been cleansed from ambient NO, viruses and bacteria, and excess humidity.

Next, the device moves into the analysis phase, following the below steps.
