Supporting your respiratory care
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a long-term respiratory condition affecting more than 400 million people globally.1 COPD is caused by damage and inflammation in the airways which reduces airflow; leading to symptoms such as shortness of breath, wheezing, persistent chesty cough and frequent chest infections.2,3
While it cannot be cured, treatment can improve symptoms slow down progression, helping improving quality of life for patients.2,3
Research estimates that up to 66% of COPD cases show a Type 2 inflammatory profile.4 FeNO is a simple, non-invasive, and convenient biomarker that can help to support early risk stratification, personalised treatment strategies and optimise COPD management.5
What is FeNO?
Asthma and COPD are the most common chronic respiratory conditions worldwide, sharing similar traits of inflammation, obstruction, and breathing difficulties.6 Asthma-COPD overlap syndrome (ACO) is the term given to patients who present with both asthma and COPD.
FeNO has been shown to be a useful tool in helping to diagnose ACO, distinguishing this from COPD alone and supporting management approaches.7,8
FeNO is a non-invasive biomarker of Type 2 airway inflammation, which is present in respiratory conditions such as asthma and COPD.4,9 It is an established tool within asthma care, however, its use in other Type 2 airway inflammatory conditions is being increasingly recognised - advancing the use of FeNO beyond traditional disease labels.
