Replacing the NIOX® sensor is simple. Please follow the steps below or watch the video demonstration.

Your NIOX VERO® device will let you knowalert you when it’s time to replace the sensor. You will see an alert code on the device screen. Code A81 indicates less than 10% of the measurements remain, A91 that all the measurements have been used and A93 lets you know when the sensor has expired. Alerts A91 and A93 will prevent any further measurements being performed until a new sensor has been fitted in the device. You can order replacements quickly and easily by requesting a quote from our online quote tool.

Step One: Before we start:

  1. Never attempt to replace the sensor whilst the device is switched on. Ensure that your device is switched off before you begin.
  2. You will need a screw driver or a flat coin to open the back door of the NIOX VERO®.
  3. Be careful when opening the tin can that the sensor comes in. Like most tins, the opening peel has a sharp edge.

Step Two: Replacing the sensor:

Note: The sensor should fit into the device easily. Do not use excessive force when inserting it. If you feel resistance, follow these steps

  1. Turn off your NIOX® device.
  2. Using a screwdriver, open the compartment on the back of the device.
  3. Turn the orange swivel counter-/anticlockwise [anticlockwise for Global, counterclockwise for US] to release the sensor.
  4. Remove the expired sensor.
  5. Ensure the inside of the compartment is free of any other material or dust.
  6. Insert a new sensor (please be careful when opening the sensor packaging can: the inside of the opening may have sharp edges). Please do not touch, mark or clean the white sensor membrane.

Note: The sensor should fit into the device easily. Do not use excessive force when inserting it. If you feel resistance, follow these steps:

  1. Remove the sensor from the device.
  2. Place your index finger into the round opening of the sensor housing.
  3. Inside the housing, there is a black rubber seal. Use your finger to gently push the seal inward, rotating it around the circular housing once.
  4. Try inserting the sensor again.
  5. If it still doesn't fit, repeat the process until the sensor fits in easily. A poorly fitted sensor in the device can cause alert codes.
  1. With the sensor in place, turn the orange swivel fully clockwise to lock.
  2. Replace the compartment lid.
  3. Using a screwdriver, gently fasten the compartment lid on the back of the device.

Step Three: Disposal of previous sensors:

Used or expired sensors should be recycled according to local facilities for electronic equipment.

To ensure your NIOX® Device always provides accurate and reliable results, the sensor should be replaced 12 months after installation or when the expiration date on the sensor has passed. Each sensor comes with a pre-determined number of measurements and will need to be replaced when they have all been used.
