How do I install and update the NIOX VERO® Panel & Apps software?

NIOX® Panel is an optional software accessory available to all NIOX VERO® owners. The platform provides a panel that can be used to display all the information on your NIOX VERO® device via USB cable or Bluetooth on a Windows PC. NIOX® Panel is for displaying information on your screen and does not connect to a database.

NIOX® Apps is a suite of apps available as a single download, designed to help you manage your FeNO testing and results by saving the information into a database.

It is important that you install the latest version of NIOX® Panel and/or NIOX® Apps if you choose to use the software with your NIOX VERO®. Please ensure you have the appropriate permissions to install software on the required computer. You might need to involve your IT support team.

If the NIOX® Panel app is connected to a centralised SQL server, please contact our Technical Support team before updating the software. Instructions for checking the NIOX® Database settings are in Appendix A at the end of this document.

When you’re ready to install or update the NIOX® software, please follow the steps below:

  1. Visit the NIOX Panel and Apps page on the NIOX Website.
  2. Scroll down to the form ‘Request Access to NIOX® Panel and Apps’.
  3. Enter the serial number of your NIOX VERO® device in the box marked ‘Instrument Serial Number’, complete the rest of the form and click ‘Submit’.
  4. The following dialogue window will appear. Click ‘OK’ to start the download.
  5. Depending on the web browser you’re using, the download may start automatically and be saved in the computer’s ‘Downloads’ folder.
    • If the ‘Open’ and ‘Save’ dialogue windows open, select ‘Save’ and the download will begin.
    • If the ‘Open’, ‘Save’ and ‘Save As’ dialogue windows open, select ‘Save As’ then select ‘Desktop’. Click ‘Save’ and the download will begin.
  6. When the download is complete, you will see the following message. Close the web browser and navigate to the saved location on the computer.
  7. Identify a folder named ‘NIOX Apps (version number)’ in a zipped format. Right-click on the ‘NIOX Apps’ zipped folder and select ‘Extract All’. A ‘Select Destination’ dialogue window will open. Select ‘Extract’. When extraction is complete, close all dialogue windows.
  8. Confirm the ‘NIOX Apps’ folder is now available. Delete the zipped format of ‘NIOX Apps’ by right-clicking the folder and selecting ‘Delete’.
  9. Open the ‘NIOX Apps’ folder. Double-click on the file named ‘setup’.
  10. Note: If .NET Framework 4.5, VC++ 2013 or SQL Server Compact is not installed, an installation wizard for each of the programmes opens, one at a time.
  11. Select ‘Accept’ for the licence agreement and ‘Install’ for each of the programmes.
  12. The last installation wizard is for NIOX® Apps.
  13. Select ‘Accept’ for the licence agreement and ‘Install’.
  14. Select ‘Accept’ for the licence agreement and ‘Install’.
  15. Note: The last step of the installation, ‘Removing backup files’, takes a few minutes.
  16. When the installation is complete, click ‘Finish’.
  17. The NIOX® Panel, Patient and Quality Control (QC) shortcuts are now available on the computer desktop. The NIOX® Apps software on the computer is now updated to the latest version.


Appendix A

  1. Using the OS (Windows 7-10) search function, enter ‘NIOX Database’ then click to open.
  2. If ‘Use Sql server’ is automatically selected, contact NIOX® Technical Support before updating the software.
